A “Digital Transformation Expert” can be defined as a natural person who has extensive expertise in the field of “Digital Transformation” and who also possesses the skills and abilities required for the competent application of this knowledge.

A “Digital Transformation Expert” is therefore a person with in-depth knowledge of the fundamental changes in the structures and the functional logic of social, economic, political, technical, cultural or logical systems through the spread of digital information and communication technologies. The expertise concerns both the phenomenon of change itself and its active strategic design.

Qualification: The acquisition of the particularly in-depth knowledge of experts in general usually takes place within the framework of academic studies, scientific research, vocational training or relevant experience. If the field of expertise concerns a phenomenon of fundamental change, as is the case with “digital transformation”, experience is of limited importance. Experience, which by definition concerns the past, cannot be easily transferred to the future in a situation of fundamental and rapid changes and can therefore only be used as a basis for decisions to a limited extent. The conceptual, theoretical and empirical analysis of the phenomenon of change is of particular importance for the development of expert knowledge in this situation, which is why scientific research is an important source of profound expertise.
Roles: In times of fundamental change, the primary task of an expert is to pass on his expertise. Such knowledge transfer can take the form of publications, speeches and advice. “Digital Transformation Experts” are therefore in demand as authors, lecturers, keynote speakers and panelists. In addition, they often act in an advisory capacity, in particular as strategy consultants, management consultants and political consultants, who emphasize their particular specialization, for example, with terms such as digitization consultant, digital consultant, digitization consultant, digital transformation consultant.

In addition to knowledge transfer, the direct application of specialist knowledge is the focus of many “digital transformation experts”. As company founders, entrepreneurs and managers, they are driving digital transformation.

The term “Digital Transformation Specialist” is used as a synonym.
