The word “digitalist” is used to describe a person who has a particularly strong connection to digital technologies or the phenomenon of their proliferation. The special relationship of the “digitalist” to the digital consists in a deepened expertise, a formative design impetus, a pioneer-like use or a positive attitude towards digital technologies and their distribution.

Thus, several specific definitions of the term “digitalist” can be formed:

A “digitalist” in a disciplinary sense can be defined as a person with profound expertise in the field of digital technologies or the phenomenon of their proliferation. The circle of “digitalists” may include persons who are usually referred to as “digitization experts”, “digitization specialists” or “digitization experts”.

A “digitalist” in the professional sense can be defined as a person who has exercised a formative design impetus or a pioneering use of digital technologies. “Digitalists” in this sense contribute to digital change, shape the course of digitalization and digital transformation and exert a formative influence on the circumstances of digital life in a digital world. The term “Digital Transformer” is used synonymously.

A “digitalist” in the context of describing values can be defined as a person who has a particularly positive attitude towards digital technologies and is in favour of their proliferation. Such people see the changes triggered by the Digital Revolution as digital opportunities and digital progress. They are generally optimistic about the idea of a digital future.
