Digitalization consulting” is the explanation of facts based on knowledge and analysis, including the evaluative presentation of alternative courses of action and the resulting recommendations, regarding the fundamental change that occurs due to the spread of digital information and communication technologies.

The spectrum of consulting content subsumed under the term “digitalization consulting” is broad. The focus is on consulting on the strategic issues of digitalization, in particular the development of digitalization strategies. Digitalization is accompanied by a comprehensive change that affects all aspects of companies, institutions and communities. Accordingly, changes have to be made in all domains. For this reason, consulting services are offered for all functional domains, industries and management levels. They can be directed at the level of normative, strategic, tactical and operational management alike. Even some services at the technical level, such as the introduction of new software, are sometimes promoted using the term.

The addressees of the consulting are usually the decision-makers of companies, institutions and communities. Consulting on strategic issues of digitalization is usually initially directed at the management bodies, such as the Executive Board, the General Management and the Supervisory Board. Advice on the technical, organisational and implementation aspects is usually addressed directly at the responsible business units.
