E-business” comprises all business activities related to digital technologies and in particular those conducted using digital technologies. The term “electronic business” is used synonymously.

The emergence of “e-business” was made possible by digitalization and began in an early phase of the digital transformation. The spread of “e-business” is a visible phenomenon of digital transformation.

E-business” is based on digital markets and takes place in particular via virtual marketplaces. From a sectoral point of view, “e-business” is part of the digital sector and thus part of the digital economy. Insofar as “e-business” is conducted via the Internet, it can be attributed to the Internet economy or the network economy. The business activity is subject to the economic laws of the digital economy.
