Within the framework of the “Digital Era Framework”, “information application” is defined as any handling of information. “Information application” is thus understood to be any form of use, modification and imprinting of information.

Information can be used in many different ways. The large variety of different ways of dealing with information can be combined into archetypes, which are called “modes of information application” in the “Digital Era Framework”.

The “Digital Era Framework” proposes a demarcation of seven such archetypes, which shape the interaction process as “modes of information application” and completely cover the spectrum of possible forms of interaction:

creation
representation
transmission
exploration
evaluation
decision
action
