The adjective “multitendental” refers to the presence of a plurality of different trends, in particular the presence of a plurality of trends which overlap, mutually influence or run counter to one another, which can make it difficult to determine the overriding line of development.

An example of a multi-trendental development is digital change. Digitization is carried by a flood of individual innovations and takes place in a multitude of individual developments that overlap, influence each other and sometimes run counter to each other. In their interaction they lead to a megatrend, the digital transformation.
