An “oto-digital system” is a set of elements of the digital infosphere on the one hand and the hearing organ of living beings on the other, which form a transspheral functional unit in that they are connected to one another in a way that enables them to interact in order to fulfil a function, a purpose or a task.

The term “oto-digitales system” is an artificial word that has been created as part of the terminology of the “Digital Era Framework”. The “Digital Era Framework” is a frame of reference in which four spheres are differentiated according to the type of manifestation of information, which can serve as criteria for classifying systems: The infosphere, which consists of the analog infosphere and the digital infosphere, as well as the cognisphere and the entisphere.
Since the spheral allocation of sensory organs depends on the analytical view, different spheres can be affected: If the physical materiality of the organ is taken into account, the biosphere and thus the entisphere are affected. If a functional perspective is taken, an involvement of the cognisphäre is to be noted. The term “oto-digitales system” refers in particular to systems that establish a direct connection between the meaning and the media of the digital infosphere.
