The term “sociodigital disruption” refers to a fundamental change in a social functional structure caused by phenomena of digital change which, in its scope, amounts to a replacement of the existing functional structure by a new one.

The term “sociodigital disruption” is used in particular to characterize an innovation based on digital technologies that enables a reconfiguration of the functional structure of a social system. Innovation is related to the development and diffusion of digital technologies, but may itself be of a technical, social, economic, structural or organisational nature.
