The term “strategic leadership” is used in various meanings.

In a disciplinary or professional sense, “strategic leadership” refers to the teaching, practice and institution of the strategic management of people, organisations, companies and communities. The term refers to the competence, action and actors of strategic leadership within the framework of social, political and economic systems.

Strategic leadership” in the competitive sense means holding a comparative advantage of strategic relevance. In this context, the term “strategic leadership” is used to describe the relative position of a strategically superior actor in relation to the others when describing a competitive situation.
