Coordination” in the widest sense is the totality of all activities aimed at coordinating different processes with the aim of facilitating interaction or ensuring the mutually undisturbed use of shared resources. The aim is to ensure the smooth running of every single one of a number of processes.

In the “Digital Era Framework”, “coordination” is considered to be one of the seven “modes of information application”, which represent the archetypes of dealing with information, such as creation, representation, transmission, exploration, evaluation, decision and action.
