In the terminology of the “Digital Era Framework”, the “modes of information application” are the archetypes of information handling, i.e. the forms of using, changing and shaping information.

The “Digital Era Framework” proposes a differentiation of seven such archetypes of the application of information. These “modes of information application” shape the interaction process. The seven archetypes cover the whole spectrum of all possible forms of interaction:

creation
representation
transmission
exploration
evaluation
decision
action.
